Require all path components to exist:

Resolve .. components before symlinks:

realpath {{[-L|--logical]}} {{path/to/file_or_directory}}

Disable symlink expansion:

realpath {{[-s|--no-symlinks]}} {{path/to/file_or_directory}}

Suppress error messages:
